There is a huge difference between the archetypal wood burning fireplaces and electric fireplaces. From the means that they are operated to the quality of heat they provide, these two kinds of fireplaces are the closest rivals in this field. The source of fuel for wood burning fireplaces is evidently “wood” from the name itself, while electric fireplaces use electricity to give power to it. If we closely consider the effect of their source of fuel to the environment, the wood burning fireplace has the prevalent direct impact of the two since overuse of its fuel can cause the depletion of the wood resources in the world. It is not merely saying that it is better to use electricity over wood, what is presented is that wood burning fireplaces directly impacts our diminishing wood resources.

Yet, improper use of electric fireplaces may also affect our environment in a more discrete manner. Since electricity is a valuable energy, wasting it can also be equated to wasting wood though in a more inherent way. Thus, whether it would be wood burning or electric, what is essential is to use the fuel source wisely.

In terms of style, modern electric fireplaces can closely resemble the appearance of wood burning fireplaces. However, there are certain models of electric fireplaces that are more compressed and can be easily transported from one area to another area making it more flexible in terms of location. Also, since electric fireplaces provide a simulated fire, it rarely needs cleaning up unlike wood burning fireplaces where you must clean burnt wood debris and ashes regularly. The only catch would be, electric fireplaces do not provide that natural effect of burning wood which is oftentimes nostalgic to most people.
